Shihan Tony Butler

With more than 50 years of dedication to the martial arts, Shihan Tony Butler has built an organization rooted not only in traditional karate-do, but also in instilling integrity, discipline, and self-worth in young students through the practice of Japanese karate. For over two decades, his teaching philosophy has emphasized teamwork, the importance of family, and the power of love.

In addition to leading his own dojo, the American Institute of Japanese Karate (AIJK), Shihan Butler also directs the Albany Recreation Department karate program. For over 20 years, he has brought karate enrichment to elementary after-school programs across Troy, Rensselaer, Albany, and Schenectady. Honored with numerous awards, Shihan Butler continues to dedicate his knowledge, passion, and leadership to empowering children throughout the Capital District with the skills and confidence they need to thrive in life.
